Alfred
Poor is one of the most widely-read experts on computer technology, with
monthly readership in magazines and on the Web measured in the millions.
He is an independent technology industry analyst and freelance writer
based in Pennsylvania, specializing in PC-compatible microcomputer
hardware and software products. He brings to his work strong communication
skills, a broad background covering a wide range of products, more than 20
years of experience with the technology markets, and the ability to make
complex concepts accessible to non-technical people, especially business
professionals. He
has performed in-depth comparative evaluations of literally thousands of
hardware and software products over the years, including printers,
scanners, optical and magnetic storage, displays, projectors, notebooks,
desktop systems, mobile and handheld devices, network hardware, digital
cameras, wireless devices, graphics adapters, GPS, voice recognition,
databases, personal information managers, document managers, optical
character recognition, data migration programs, personal video recorders,
and database applications. He has written extensively about computer
technology for PC Magazine, Extreme Tech, and other print and online
titles. He has also written numerous white papers and trade articles for
various companies. He has particular experience and knowledge about displays and their underlying technology. He is a member of the Society for Information Display (SID), chair of the Delaware Valley Chapter of SID, and a former member and past chair of the SID Display of the Year Awards Committee. As a contributing editor with SID’s Information Display magazine, he has edited and authored nearly 100 articles that cover the broadest range of technologies in the display field. Until March 2005, he was a Contributing Editor with PC Magazine, and was the Lead Analyst for Business Displays starting in January of 2004. He has played key roles in display product testing for PC Magazine over the past 21 years, developing the rigorous testing protocols for monitor and projector testing that have become the standard for product comparison. |
